Following current government guidance to work from home due to COVID-19, cohort 2 of Lab by Transport for Wales Accelerator Programme will be delivered 100% online and remotely.

This post will explain how we are going to do this, highlight the reasons for making this decision, and why our remote accelerator could be the perfect opportunity to scale up your business.

What is Lab by Transport for Wales?

Lab by Transport for Wales is our 11-week innovation accelerator programme, which will give your start-up the chance to secure a contract of work with Transport for Wales Rail (TfWR).

By week 11 we will have prepared you to pitch your solution to a TfWR panel. Successful pitches will be awarded a contract of work to finish development and roll out your product across TfWR.

You will be given access to data and knowledge from within the rail industry to help you refine your product and develop a solution fit-for-market.

You will also have the chance to win a share of £15,000 to spend however you like.

The best part? You can do all of this from home!

Our innovation accelerator programme will be delivered entirely online to ensure the safety of all participants, in line with the government’s guidelines.

Recruitment for cohort 2 of our REMOTE accelerator is live now.

How we are running remotely

Our innovation team will be delivering workshops through video presentations and conference calling and uploading all learning materials for you to access at your leisure.

Each Wednesday, sessions will be held where you will learn and develop your skillset across MVP development, design thinking, production innovation. You will also have the opportunity to engage with TfWR senior team members, data and resources.

Your attendance will be required for each of these sessions

All of this can be done from the comfort of your own home, or office space.

Resources and learning materials will be uploaded to OneDrive for you to access in your own time, ahead of workshops.

Workshops and interactive sessions will be delivered via mural.co, a digital workspace which allows teams to think and collaborate visually when solving problems.

All communication, group communication and live video will take place over Microsoft Teams. Video webcam and microphone access will be required for this.

Why we have chosen to do this

At TfWL we understand the strain and uncertainty for businesses, especially small businesses. During these struggling times, we are doing all that we can to ensure your start-up gets the help it needs.

The recent government and WHO guidance regarding COVID-19 states “you should work from home where you can”.

For this reason, and for the safety of all everyone involved, we took our learnings from cohort 1 and have tailored them to create a 100% remote and entirely online delivery of cohort 2.

This is an opportunity for you to develop products tailored to improve Welsh rail, scale-up and grow your start-up in the most time and cost-effective way possible.

The 11-week programme is completely FREE, 100% remote and allows you the flexibility to prepare for workshops in your own time.

All learning materials will be available online for you to access and engage with at your own leisure.

Getting Started

Our remote programme will kick off with a product development boot camp on Wednesday July 29th. This will teach you the techniques and practices you will need throughout the programme.

If you’re a start-up ready to upscale and upskill, we want to hear from you.
